The celebration of the 40th anniversary of parenteral nutrition in Poland will be held on October 5 at the SPSK of Prof. W. Orlowski CMKP in Warsaw. The celebration will focus on achievements in the field of nutrition therapy and the merits of improving the situation of Polish patients. Among the invited guests are authorities, experts, patients, representatives of various communities involved in health care. The jubilee was held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Health, Ombudsman for Patient Rights, President of the National Health Fund and the director of CMKP.
Parenteral nutrition involves the delivery of all nutrients by intravenous route. For each patient - under aseptic conditions of the hospital pharmacy - there is an individually prepared mixture containing nutrients with a strictly planned composition.
Parenteral nutrition is a complex treatment intended for patients including: after extensive intestinal surgery, with post-operative complications of the gastrointestinal tract, with inflammatory bowel disease, and for patients with gastrointestinal failure in whom natural nutrition is impossible or insufficient to keep them alive.
