The Department of Mechanical Support and Heart Transplantation has been opened at the National Institute of Cardiology. It will treat patients with severe forms of heart failure. Annually, there may be up to two hundred of them. The launch of the new branch is the last stage of a several-year investment, which included the creation of, among others, Center for Heart Rhythm Disorders with an electrotherapy unit.
There are nine highly specialized workstations on the ward where it is possible to carry out therapy with the use of ventilators, renal replacement therapy and appropriately selected intravenous therapy. Supervision over patients is carried out with the use of both stationary monitoring systems (cardiac monitors) and portable telemetry transmitters.
