- In more than half of the cases, the amniotic fluid drains due to the bacterial threat of various strains, many of which are highly malignant. The infection can therefore have a fulminant course. It's a condition in which a woman can even die within minutes," said Professor Piotr Sieroszewski, president of the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians, during a conference at which guidelines for the management of premature amniotic fluid drainage were presented.

Premature drainage of amniotic fluid, which occurs in the middle trimester, occurs with a frequency of about 1.5 percent of pregnancies. Annually, about 5,000 women are thus affected by this problem.
